As part of a science popularization initiative aimed at youth, staff members of the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology — Oleh Demianchuk, Vladyslav Berezovskyi, and Andrii Shturmak — organized a career guidance event for high school students from the city of Khmelnytskyi who visited our university.
The event took place in the PNU Ecosystem auditorium, where students had the opportunity to feel like real researchers. The guests observed fascinating biological experiments, including the extraction of DNA from a banana and the “yeast volcano” demonstration. They were also introduced to mutant lines of Drosophila melanogaster (fruit flies) used in genetic research, as well as cloned plants grown through micropropagation techniques.
In addition, the young scientists spoke about current research areas in biology, biochemistry, and biotechnology being actively pursued at the department, such as experiments investigating molecular mechanisms of aging, antioxidant defense, and metabolic regulation.
We sincerely thank the students and teachers for their interest in science and look forward to future meetings!
