Citations (the number of references to other researchers to the scientific articles of the author) are indicators which largely demonstrate how scientific studies of a certain author are in demand and interesting to other researchers in the field. In particular, researchers cite (refer to) other articles to interpret their scientific results or develop/ supplement/ refute new scientific ideas and hypotheses, from which they use the methodological base for example.
The annual rating of scientists by the level of citation of their works is drawn up by Stanford University researchers and analysts in the Elsevier and Sci Tech Strategies. The rating is based on the analysis of about 7 million scholars’ profiles in the Scientific Database of Scopus, of which by selected cite criteria (total citations, H-index, citations, taking into account co-authors and the author of the author in the list of co-authors, etc.). This rating is presented in two formats.
The first format of the rating takes into account all the citation and publication activity of the scientist since the beginning of a scientific career (the table has taken into account the data since 1996). In fact, this table represents the influence and achievements of experienced scientists. Only Professor Volodymyr Lushchak came to this rating from our university. He places on 14468st stage among 195 605 scientists of the world and he has highest place among 187 scientists of Ukraine presented in the rating. In his main field (biochemistry and molecular biology), Professor Volodymyr Lushchak is among the 0.5% of the most citated researchers in the field of biochemistry.
The second format of the rating – takes into account the citation of the scientist in the last year and allows to evaluate the influence of young scientists (since in the overall rating, it is difficult for young scientists to compete with experienced scientists who have sufficient luggage of publications and citation). Three scholars of our university – Professor Volodymyr Lushchak, Associate Professor of Chemistry, Tetiana Tatarchuk and Associate Professor of the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology Oleh Lushchak, got into this rating. In total, 108 scientists of Ukraine are presented in the rating among 200 409 scientists of the world. As in the general (first) ranking, in the second rating, Professor Lushchak ranks first among scientists of Ukraine.
Scientists in the second format of the rating show their current scientific activity (how active and productive are scientists in recent years). As we can see, Professor Volodymyr Lushchak holds the bar – he is not only a leader among those who have already reached scientific peaks, but also continues to actively engage in scientific activities. We also rejoice in the success of our scientist Oleh Lushchak, who occupies high positions in the rating and thus demonstrates that real science is really done at the Precarpathian University!
Congratulations to our scientists and proud of their success!
