Our professor and head of department Maria Bayliak is also head of project called “Intermediates of the phenyl propanoid path as a substance for the extension of life expectancy and quality”. This project is performed by researchers of the department and began in 2020. Studies relate to how different substances, including: R.rosea root extract, ferulic acid, chili pepper, alpha ketoglutaric acid can affect not only life longevity, but also its quality in model objects such as fruit flies and mouse.
Experiments have been suspended because of full-scale Russian invasion in Ukraine. This summer researchers have continued their work, but Russian missile launching and switching off electricity are interrupting progress. As a positive, the equipment provided with the support of the Grant Program of the National Research Fund of Ukraine helps to solve problems during difficult times. For example, the low -temperature refrigerator helps to save experimental samples. In addition, thanks to this grant program researchers received new quality equipment, which helps to carry out experiments fast and quality during extreme conditions.
