Congratulations to the faculty of the department on the publication of an experimental article in the journal Brain Research Bulletin!

The researchers of our department have published a new paper that reveals the effect of alpha-ketoglutarate (AKG) on brain function, in particular in the context of a cafeteria diet (CD). The study examined how ACG affects anxiety behavior, oxidative stress, and metabolic pathways in the cerebral cortex of female mice.

The results showed that AKG, especially in combination with CD, increases anxiety, activates genes related to autophagy, and reduces the activity of antioxidant enzymes, which may contribute to oxidative stress. At the same time, no significant changes in the functioning of glycolytic enzymes were detected.

This study emphasizes the complex effects of AKG on brain metabolism and behavioral responses, with potential implications for dietetics and neuroscience.

Congratulations to the authors on this publication and a special congratulations to the five talented PhD students who contributed to this work! 🎉👏
