Students and Postgraduates of the Department Successfully Presented Their Research at the International Conference “Youth and Progress of Biology”

From April 28 to May 1, 2025, the XXI International Scientific Conference for Students and PhD Students “Youth and Progress of Biology” took place, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Department of Human and Animal Physiology, Faculty of Biology, Ivan Franko National University of Lviv.

On the opening day, Professor Volodymyr Lushchak delivered a keynote presentation, showcasing the department’s research on the effects of alpha-ketoglutarate on Drosophila melanogaster and laboratory mice.

In the following days, students, postgraduates, and staff from the department actively participated in the conference, presenting oral and poster reports in the sections of biochemistry, biophysics, human and animal physiology, and plant physiology. Their research topics covered a wide range of contemporary biological studies, including:

  • Application of solvatochromic fluorescent dyes for detecting amyloid fibrils;
  • Impact of metal ions on the biochemical and physiological parameters of plants;
  • Effects of dietary components (alpha-ketoglutarate and broccoli sprouts) on the metabolic consequences of high-calorie diets in animals;
  • Behavioral and biochemical changes in mice induced by various stress models, including sex differences in stress responses;
  • Age-related morphological changes in the reproductive and digestive systems of Drosophila melanogaster.

Conference participants also enjoyed guided tours of the Paleontological, Zoological, and Mineralogical Museums at Ivan Franko National University of Lviv.

At the conclusion of the conference, awards were presented for the best reports:

In the “Biochemistry” section, third place was awarded to postgraduates Maryan Ivanochko and Vitalii Derkachov, along with assistant Oleh Demianchuk.

In the “Human and Animal Physiology, Biomedicine” section:

  • Third place – Anna Okhovych,
  • Second place – Vladyslav Berezovskyi,
  • First place – Vitalii Balatskyi.

For best poster presentations, first-degree diplomas were awarded to:

  • Fourth-year students Petro Hats and Illia Yatsyna in the “Biophysics” section;
  • Third-year student Viktoriia Zadarko and fourth-year student Uliana Kilchytska in the “Plant Physiology” section.

We congratulate our participants on their commendable presentation of scientific research results and wish them continued success!

The conference served as an excellent platform for exchanging experiences, scientific ideas, and new approaches in biological research. Engaging with colleagues from various cities and universities provided a deeper understanding of research outcomes and identified potential directions for future collaboration.

We express our sincere gratitude to the conference organizers for the high level of the event and to the Armed Forces of Ukraine for enabling us to live, work, and engage in science in a free country.
