On 5-6 March, Ihor Yurkevych, assistant at the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, participated in the Genomics and Bioinformatics Workshop at the Szentagothai Janos Research Centre of the University of Pécs (Hungary), organised under the auspices of the EDUC-WIDE consortium. Besides the participant from our university, scientists from the University of Cagliari (Italy), Masaryk University (Czech Republic), the University of South-Eastern Norway (Norway) and the University of Pecs (Hungary) participated in this event.
The programme of the event covered a wide range of topics in the field of bioinformatics. The participants presented their institutions, skills and achievements, the areas of interest for future research. Roles and responsibilities in genomics laboratories and the use of the LIMS system for sample and project management were discussed. At the end of the first day, the participants visited the Hungarian Centre for Genomics and Bioinformatics to learn about the latest technologies in genomics and bioinformatics.
The second day of the event focused on discussions on solving operational problems, data protection and security, staff exchange programme, creation of a thematic network for cooperation in genomics and bioinformatics, services and revenues of commercial genomic institutions. Representatives from the University of Pecs presented the PRECISEMED project on genomics and biostatistics.
The meeting focused on interactive, hands-on workshops, knowledge sharing sessions and networking opportunities to address common challenges, explore innovative technologies, improve operational practices and create a collaborative network that will benefit both research and clinical applications.
The workshop and the travel expenses of participants were funded by a grant from EDUC-WIDE consortium that facilitates collaboration between research core facilities of member universities (Knowledge Exchange Scheme).
