On June 27-29, International conference “Drosophila in experimental genetics and biology” was held at the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology. This conference is biennial. The founder of the conference is Doctor of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor Iryna Kozeretska from the National Antarctic Scientific Center of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. Previous conference was held at Odesa I. I. Mechnykov National University. The participants of this conference were researchers from different cities of Ukraine, including Kyiv, Odesa, Kharkiv, and Lviv. There were also many presentations by online speakers, including foreign guests Howard Jacobs (Finland), Gerald Rimbach (Germany), Nicolas Rode (France), Martin Kapun (Austria), Martyna Gáliková (Slovakia), Josefa González (Spain) and others The main working language of the conference was English. The topics of the conference comprised the use of the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster in biomedical research, in particular, in biogerontology, studies of metabolic disorders, the consequences of hereditary diseases, lack of trace elements, the development and evolution of different species of the fruit fly, including invasive species, social projects related to the ecology of various species of Drosophila, etc. The majority of studies were presented by young researchers, including staff workers, postgraduates and students of the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology. A part of the funds for the conference were provided by the Ukrainian Fulbright Circle. Accomodation grants to participants from other cities of Ukraine were provided by the platform “Teple Misto” (Ivano-Frankivsk).
