Young scientists-biochemists of the University took part in Fourth Annual BTRP Ukraine Regional One Health Research Symposium

Fourth Annual BTRP Ukraine Regional One Health Research Symposium (ROHRS) was held during May 20-24, 2019 in Kyiv. ROHRS was conducted as a part of the Science Writing Mentorship Program (SWMP), which was initiated within the framework of Cooperative Biological Engagement Program of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA). The overall focus of SWMP was defined as to advance One Health initiatives and disease risk mitigation in Ukraine through effective dissemination of scientific findings at CBEP-supported laboratories. Over the course of the Symposium, 470 researchers from 10 countries gave oral and poster presentations.

Our young scientists-biochemists, Nadiia Burdyliuk, Olha Strilbytska, Uliana Semaniuk, Alina Zaiachkivska, Antonina Melnychuk, Tetina Strutynska and Khrystyna Matveieva were among the participants of the Symposium. All of them presented their research results at poster sections.

Building on the success of previous events, the fourth ROHRS added additional concurrent sessions on clinical medicine, veterinary medicine, and public health. In addition, the second annual Forum on One Health and Science Policy was conducted to bring together Ukrainians interested in public policy issues facing the science, human health, veterinary health, and higher education communities.

Associate Professor of Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology Oleh Lushchak was a member of Peer Review Panel, which worked to identify Ukrainian scientists for pairing with field-specific international Subject Matter Experts (SME) to assist with data analysis, targeting high-impact journals, and producing viable manuscripts for submission to peer reviews and potential publication. Among the scientists selected by experts are two our researchers, Olha Strilbytska and Antonina Melnychuk. Their mentors will be Luis DaSilva, M.Sc., Ph.D (USA) and Sergey Mikhalovsky, PhD (Great Britain).
