Professor Volodymyr Lushchak visited Physiology Institute of The Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen

On realization of joint Ukranian-German project  “Cellular mechanisms of healthy brain ageing under caloric restriction”  supported by Volkswagen Foundation (https://kbb.pnu.edu.ua/en/research-2/research-projects/cellular-mechanisms-of-healthy-brain-ageing-under-caloric-restriction/) initiated by Professor Olga Garaschuk (https://www.cin.uni-tuebingen.de/about-cin/people/cin-members/person-detail/prof-dr-olga-garaschuk.html) head of Physiology Institute of The Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen (Tubingen, Germany), Professor, head of the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology of  Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University (PNU) 9-15 December visited German partner University. Since the project is close to finalyzation, both parties discussed final stages of its realization and whole project with special attention to continuation of fruiful collaboration in the field of aging and age-related pathologies along with potential prophylactics and curing them. Professor Lushchak gave a lecture “Age-related decline of efficiency of energy-producing and defense systems in mouse brain is partially prevented by intermittent fasting“ where delivered results received by the Ukrainian partners. Molecular mechanisms well known age-related decline in energy provision of the brain along with weakening of systems defending organisms against reactive oxygen and carbonyl species were disclosed. Intermittent fasting was shown to prevent partially age-related functional declines. At the seminar and followed nonformal meetings perspectives of collaboration beweeen these teams were discussed along with potential inolvement of  certain third parties.
